Olympic Basketball

What a lovely week ahead [said with great sarcasm].

NY is filled with left-wing protesters angry at everything Republican and New Yorkers angry at the protesters for getting in their way. A lot people I know have gone on vacation this week, just because they don't want to deal with the traffic jams and transportation delays. Perhaps their absence will keep some of the jams from occurring, we'll see.

I'm working all week, 'till Friday when Giselle and I will be heading to Cozumel on vacation.

Big props to the Women's Basketball team and their Gold Medal.

NJ Governor Part 2

The leftovers of hurricane Charley made it unbearably warm and muggy here. You could cut the air with a spatula. But surprise, it was a gorgeous almost Fall like Sunday. I ended up riding my bike in both Prospect Park and Central Park on Sunday so my legs were a bit wobbly today.

Things are picking up a bit at my freelance gig at Y&R. I'm working on some scripts for a new Colgate Total TV campaign, but being a freelancer I'm not holding my breath to see if any of my concepts makes it through to the client, or further. It's not likely I'd be allowed to attend any meetings at with the client or be part of any shoot unless I was on staff.

New Jersey's Governor

Truth, is stranger than fiction. Even though my dad and a lot of my family live in Jersey, I usually pay little attention to New Jersey politics or news, but it's impossible not to when the news broke last Friday and through the weekend.

One thing Gov. McGreevey has to be thankful for: Saturday Night live is summer hiatus.

Giselle and I have been trying to catch up on our summer movies.
We went to see "Collateral", we were running a few minutes late late from dinner, so I didn't think much was amiss when we entered the theatre and saw the movie already running. Turns out the usher had directed us to the wrong theatre (it was playing in two) and we had walked into the last 45 minutes or so of the movie!

Well rather than wait another hour for the next screening (and yes, it was a cool film and Jamie Fox was a surprisingly good actor) we snuck into the Bourne Supremacy which was starting shortly.

The fight and chase scenes were shot/edited perhaps a bit too frenetic and shaky to best appreciate the fight choreography but still a taught spy thriller. It was as good as the first film, which says a lot. It makes the recent 007 films seem so hack and hollow in comparison.

Veggie Ribs

Giselle and I returned from our brief trip to SF and a wedding Sacramento. She calls it her High-School reunion as the bride and a number of the guests and bridal party were her High School friends. She has no plans on attending her 10 year reunion (for the record, I didn't either.)

Call it fate or coincidence but a few days before we headed out, I got an email from my friend Mario, who I'd lost touch with for over 2 years (I had his old email and he never sent me his new one, etc.). Turns out he was now living in Sacramento and so we ended up crashing on his couch overnight rather than drive straight back after the wedding reception.

We ended up watching "Mean Girls" on the flight. I was surprised how good the movie was. Not your typical teen throw-away flick. Tina Fey (of Saturday Night Live) should get nominated for her script. Okay, maybe not an Oscar, but at least nominated.

After getting up at 3:30am to catch a 6am flight (both outbound and the return) I honestly don't know what's worse–That, or taking the red-eye.

Smokey Says

ADWorks the ad agency I worked at in Hawaii is no more. They closed their doors last Friday. I heard rumors, but the official word came this Saturday when the news was posted on a Honolulu newspaper's website. Doesn't come as too much of a surprise to me, since they lost their two largest accounts this year. One of them was AT&T Wireless which was bought by Cingular.

Here in New York, the Summer has become much more typical. Hot and humid with a capitol 'Heeehch'. Giselle and I are flying out to SF this weekend for her friend's wedding in Sacramento (another hot and muggy town).
